Tanrtums, New Friends and Expeditions
It's been one heck of a week around here! I don't know if I'm going to make it to the weekend. How about you? Two more days. We can do it.
Sebastian and I were running some errands the other day when he declared he wanted to go into Starbucks by kicking and screaming at the top of his lungs and throwing himself in front of the door. Toddler tantrum on Union Street. I picked him up in the throws of his disapproval. I got one block before I actually sat on the sidewalk with my screaming child--among all the busy foot traffic. Twenty-something fashionable women walked by, eyes wide, and I gave them the shock of their life. Yes ladies, this is motherhood. I spotted a park bench not far off in the distance and made a run for it. I got us sat down so we could collect ourselves-Sebastian still screaming bloody murder. An old man came up to me and said, "Ah the joys of parenthood. Keep up the good work." Thanks old man! I needed that. I could tell he was a warrior too once upon a time. On we fight! To the battlefield!
I met a new friend this week. Lara from church stopped by and I threw myself at her. I invited myself to come with her on a walk. I hadn't showered and I looked like a hot mess. But, we're a little starved for conversation around here. Sebastian was so excited that she had two kids I couldn't not try to kidnap them for the day. So, we went to a play place and got something to eat. Sebastian had on a perma smile and declared it the best day ever! He really needed a play date. We had a nice chat and she is an answer to a prayer in such a specific way that I can't not acknowledge the hand of the Lord. Twas a great day.
Yesterday Sebastian and I went exploring. I had a few errands to run in town first and then we'd go back toward our flat and head off on our adventure. I got my errands done and when we got to our street to start the expedition it started to rain. I had a split second to make a decision. Go home and seek refuge from the rain or carry on? On with the expedition! I put the rain guard on the stroller so Sebastian would stay dry and I went on without a coat, rain boots or even an umbrella. It was re-freshing!
We found two charming little parks! Full of autumn leaves that were falling and little paved walking trails to enjoy. We even found a stream, bridge and kids play park. A rainbow even stopped to say hello. I'd say we found what we were looking for.
Note to self:: Buy one of those mini umbrellas to fit inside your bag so you won't have to walk around cold and wet all afternoon.
